Board of Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors of the County of Inyo, State of California, met in special   session at the hour of 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Statham Hall, 138 N. Jackson Street, Lone Pine, California, with the following Supervisors present:   Chairperson Susan Cash presiding, Linda Arcularius, Ted Williams, Jim Bilyeu, and Richard Cervantes.   Supervisor Cervantes provided the Invocation, and Supervisor Williams led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Public Comment

The Chairperson announced the public comment period and there was no one from the public wishing to address the Board.

The individual Board Members offered opening remarks.   The Board went on to conduct a lively discussion with members of the audience regarding the Ballot Measure and Ordinance entitled “An Ordinance of the County of Inyo, State of California Adding Section 3.202.200 to the Inyo County Code, to Impose an Additional Transient Occupancy Tax at the Rate of Three Percent (3%) for the Purpose of Funding Law Enforcement Services Provided by the County of Inyo.”    The discussion included: (a) the needs of law enforcement for this funding; (b) the fact that this is not a general tax; (c) concerns with the money being used for other than law enforcement purposes; (d) alternatives to generating revenues; (e) the impact on the motel and hotel business and the tourist industry as a result of the increase; and (f) the impact to County programs should this measure not be approved.   The Board responded to questions throughout the discussion and accepted a presentation from Ms. Kathleen New, Executive Director of the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce, on her understanding of the measure.

The Chairperson adjourned the special meeting at 8:45 p.m., with thanks to the attendees for the interest in gaining understanding of ballot measure.
