  Solid Waste Program

 Active Sites

There are five active solid waste disposal sites in Inyo County that are permitted and regulated by the Inyo County Environmental Health Services Department:

  • Bishop-Sunland Landfill
  • Independence Landfill
  • Lone Pine Landfill
  • Shoshone Landfill ( not open to public)
  • Tecopa landfill ( not open to public)

In addition, there are four active transfer stations, where residents can dispose of solid waste:

  • Big Pine
  • Keeler
  • Homewood Canyon
  • Olancha

All of the above active waste disposal sites are operated by the Inyo County Solid Waste Management Department. Closed, Illegal or Abandoned Sites (CIA’s)

There are numerous inventoried closed, illegal and/or abandoned solid waste sites throughout Inyo County. Inyo County Environmental Health Services regulates these facilities, working with property owners  to remediate these sites.

 Illegal Dumping

Disposal of solid waste outside of a permitted solid waste facility is illegal, whether on private or public property. ICEHS takes illegal dumping seriously,  and public cooperation is appreciated. If you wish to report illegal dumping, please complete the feedback form (linked below) to submit a report, or call this office at (760) 878-0261. Helpful information may include license plate numbers, pictures, and dates, times and locations.
