| The Inyo County Environmental Health Services Department consists of seven employees who carry out the mission of safeguarding the public health from environmental hazards. This is achieved by the enforcement of Federal, State and local regulations to ensure the safe supply of food and water, to monitor the proper management of wastes and hazardous materials, to investigate environmental health related causes of illness and to abate hazardous environmental conditions.
Regular inspections of permitted facilities and investigations of complaints are conducted by trained and licensed Environmental Health Specialists. Our water laboratory provides a wide range of bacterial analyses and conducts over 2500 analyses each year.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS PROGRAM
CA Aboveground Petroleum Storage Act (APSA):
Transfers primary regulatory authority for aboveground petroleum storage tanks from the CA Regional Water Quality Control Board to the local Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs)

Requires local government agencies (CUPAs) and businesses regulated under the Unified Program to transition to an Internet/electronic based reporting system by January 1, 2013.

FOOD PROGRAM
CA Menu Labeling Legislation:
Outlines menu labeling requirements for certain retail food facilites. These include chains, or franchises, with at least twenty facilities in the State, but excludes certain facilities, including grocery and convenience stores.

CA Food Handlers Card:
Designed to insure restaurant employees receive a reasonable amount of food safety education. Affects all employees that prepare, serve or store food. Affected persons must obtain their food handler card by July 1, 2011.
