August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month

On Saturday, August 1, 2020, Inyo County Health & Human Services WIC and First 5 Programs are holding a socially distanced parade open to all to celebrate breastfeeding and raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding. It is a drive-through event following all local directives.

Breastfeeding provides numerous benefits to babies and mothers. Breastfeeding helps protect babies from disease and is also beneficial for mothers, lowering their risk for some cancers.

Drive by the Bishop WIC office or the Lone Pine HHS office between 10:00am and 12:00pm “between the naptimes” on Saturday, August 1st, to show your support for breastfeeding and receive a free goodie bag. Pregnant and breastfeeding moms are eligible to enter our raffle for grand prizes, such as portable electric breast pumps or the Moby wrap baby carrier. Decorating your car or stroller is recommended, but not required. If you drive up, please stay in your car. If you walk up, please keep six-foot distance and wear a face covering.

In addition, the programs will be featuring breastfeeding moms in a “Breastfeeding Spotlight” during the first week of August on the local collaborative Team Inyo for Healthy Kids Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TeamInyo/.

Please call Inyo County WIC at 760-872-1885 for more information.
