Special Units

Boat Patrol:

Our Boat Patrol works tirelessly to educate the public and diminish reckless and unsafe activities on our local waterways by enforcing California Boating and Waterway Laws. In addition to conducting routine patrols of these local waterways, the Boat Patrol detail also assists Inyo County Search and Rescue with water-based rescue missions in the county and stand ready to assist other law enforcement agencies within their jurisdictions as needed.

Off Highway Vehicle Detail:

Using funds made available from the California State Parks and Recreation Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Division the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office patrols federal and public lands throughout Inyo County. The OHV Detail wants residents and visitors to enjoy a safe and responsible recreational experience. All Inyo County Sheriff’s OHV Detail Officers are committed to providing educational information to OHV enthusiasts as well as providing enforcement when there are violations. Maps that detail Inyo County’s motorized and non-motorized trails are available at all local Chamber of Commerce locations.

Mounted Patrol:

The Inyo County Mounted Patrol is a multi-agency unit consisting of members from the Inyo and Mono County Sheriff’s Departments, Mammoth Lakes Police Department and the Law Enforcement Division of the National Forest Service. Participation in the unit is voluntary and members of the Unit must provide their own horses and basic equipment.

The Mounted Patrol participates in many public events. In addition to a variety of parades, some of our most notable appearances include showings for Bishop Mule Days, Tri-County Fair, Lone Pine Film Festival, and the Death Valley 49’ers. Our Unit has also served as both the Mounted Color Guard and Mounted Guard for the California Fallen Officers Memorial in Sacramento. The Unit provides assistance as needed for local law enforcement agencies for tasks such as crowd control, searches for evidence, and, on occasion, locating lost persons.
