Property Destruction, Safekeeping, or Observation
Property Destruction, Safekeeping or Observation
Any ammunition, illicit drugs or narcotics confiscated or turned in to the Sheriff’s Office will be destroyed.
Weapons taken for safekeeping or a domestic violence incident may be retrieved at the Inyo County Sheriff’s Substation in Bishop or Lone Pine if eligible, and after receiving clearance from the Department of Justice (PC § 12021.3). If unclaimed after 180 days, they must be destroyed.
Found property, recovered and cleared stolen property and items held for safekeeping or observation are released to owners, upon proof of ownership, or eventually sent to public auction and sold. Some items (e.g., those in dangerous, unusable, or poor or damaged condition) may be discarded.
