Found Property

Found Property

The California Civil Code (§ 2080-2080.10) requires found property with a value of $100 or more be turned over to the Sheriff’s Office. We will give you a receipt. If unclaimed by the owner(s), the found items you turn in to the Sheriff’s Office (including cash or jewelry) can be claimed by you after 90 days.

Please call the Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible. Found items may not be lost, but may actually be stolen or become an important part of a crime the Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Your discovery of the items may help solve the case. Found property can be given to any Sheriff’s Deputy, or you can bring it to a substation, during normal business hours.

If you find items outside of Inyo County, call or go to the local Police Department or Sheriff’s Office in the area where you found the item(s) and turn them in there.
