Victim Services

The Inyo County Probation Department assists victims of crime through the following services:

  • When a criminal or juvenile case is referred to the Probation Department, you will be contacted and asked if you would like to provide a statement regarding the impact the crime had on you.  This includes the emotional and physical impact the crime had on you, in addition to any monetary loss you suffered.  You also have the right to voice your opinion with respect to what you feel an appropriate sentence should be for the offender.   Your statement will be included in a Probation Officer's presentence report or juvenile disposition report and recommendation to the court.  If you have not been contacted by the Probation Department prior to the offender's sentencing hearing, you are encouraged to do so.

  • After an offender is sentenced, it is the responsibility of the Probation Department to enforce any court orders or offender supervision conditions with respect to restitution owed to you, or no contact/stay away orders that may have been imposed by the Court.  The Probation Department will endeavor to collect victim restitution while the offender is under supervision.  Restitution payments are made to the Probation Department and processed by Inyo County, after which you will receive a check from Inyo County.  If, during the life of the case, you have questions or concerns about restitution payments, you are encouraged to contact the Probation Department.  If an offender is prohibited from having contact with you and that occurs, you are encouraged to report that contact to either the Probation Department or law enforcement.

  • If you feel you are in danger from the offender at any time, please immediately contact law enforcement or call 911!
