Broadband
Current Broadband Projects and Efforts in Inyo County
Broadband for All is the State of California's commitment to closing the Digital Divide. Toward this goal, California has allocated funding in SB156 for a statewide middle-mile network as well as for last-mile construction and adoptions programs.
The County of Inyo has assembled a team to coordinate the County's involvement with SB156 activities with representation from:
- County Administration
- Public Works
- Planning
- Building and Safety Inspection
- Information Services
- City of Bishop
The County of Inyo submitted a grant application for Local Agency Technical Assistance funding in August 2022 to fund shovel-ready, last-mile network construction engineering designs to connect the unserved and underserved remote and rural population centers and cities in Inyo County to symmetrical 100Mbps or better broadband Internet service.
This GIS Link shows the several project areas in the County that we hope to connect to contemporary broadband Internet service.
You can keep track of regional broadband efforts and activities at the Inyo-Mono Broadband Consortium's website: https://ConnectedEasternSierra.net/.
Broadband Strategic Plan
Inyo County is a Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA) member county that was included in the awarded US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant for development of individual countywide broadband strategic plans. Under the terms of the grant each countywide plan is to be completed for $125,000 with $100K (80%) covered by the EDA grant and $25K (20%) as matching funds from the County of Inyo.
Tilson Technology, the contractor for GSFA, delivered Inyo County's Broadband Feasibility Study in January, 2024. The Broadband Feasibility Study is in the Documents list below.
