FAA GIVES WRIGHT BROTHERS MASTER PILOT AWARD TO LOCAL PILOT JERRY RODGERS

On Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at the regular meeting of the Northern Inyo Airport Advisory Committee meeting, the FAA awarded local pilot, Jerry Thomas Rodgers the prestigious Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. This award is the highest award given by the FAA to pilots. The award is given: "In recognition of your 50+ years of exemplary aviation flight experience, distinguished professionalism, and steadfast commitment to aviation safety."

Jerry Rodgers started Private Pilot training at the Van Nuys, California airport (KVNY) in June, 1969. He soloed on June 30, 1969 in a Cessna 150. He received his Private Pilot Certificate on August 26, 1969.

Jerry obtained his Instrument Rating on April 18, 2005, and his Commercial Pilot's Certificate on April 21, 2005. He also holds an FAA Mechanics Certificate with Airframe and Engine ratings.

Jerry has been an active pilot and aircraft mechanic for decades. He has flown airplanes consistently for the past 57 years.

Over the years, Jerry has owned 5 certified airplanes. He has hand-built and flown 5 different experimental airplanes. Now, he is actively at work building his 6th experimental airplane. He has been an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) since 1971.

Jerry has had continuous involvement in local aviation communities since 1969. He is presently flying his own hand-built RV aircraft. And he is a local "go-to guy," that helps other pilots and aircraft owners.

Jerry was presented with a formal FAA Certificate for the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, and an accompanying wall plaque and lapel pins. At the request of the FAA, the presentation was made by local pilot, Peter Tracy, who nominated Jerry for this award.
