Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA)

ESIA, Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, was established in the early 1970's to help the Inyo National Forest provide information and interpretive programs for the public. The website has an online store with books, maps, and other products of local interest. There is also an Eastern Sierra Interpretive Calendar that has schedules of interpretive events happening in the area.

Manzanar National Historic Site

Located just south of Independence, California  
Site of the World War II Manzanar War Relocation Center and now a National Park National Historic Site.

Laws Railroad Museum and Historical Site | Bishop Museum and Historical Society

The Laws Railroad Museum and Historical Site is not just another train museum.  Located on the site of the Laws Railroad station and rail yard, the land, 1883 depot and other buildings, and the last train, were donated to Inyo County and the City of Bishop by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1960.  The museum is operated by the Bishop Museum and Historical Society under contract with those two agencies.

Museum of Western Film History

The Museum of Western Film History honors the men and women of the silver screen who interpret the lives of the American Cowboy; the legendary iconic movie and TV heroes and heroines of America’s 19th and 20th centuries. In addition, the museum collects and shares more contemporary movie-making in the regional area of Inyo County, such as sci-fi genres and other cinematic references to the local landscape.

Carson & Colorado Railway

The Carson & Colorado Railway is an all volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit group dedicated to the restoration, preservation and operation of Southern Pacific narrow gauge locomotive #18 as a living reminder of the proud history of Independence and Southern Inyo County.

Inyo National Forest - Wilderness Permits

White Mountain Ranger District

White Mountain Ranger District extends from the crest of the Sierra Nevada to the White Mountains. There are lakes, ponds, rivers and creeks for fishing. Roads and trails explore a wide variety of terrain and life zones. Elevations accessible by car range from 3,900 ft in Big Pine to 10,100 ft at the end of Rock Creek Road.

Millpond Music Festival

Eastern Sierra Land Trust works with willing landowners to protect vital lands in the Eastern Sierra region for their scenic, agricultural, natural, recreational, historical, and watershed values.

Friends of the Inyo

Founded in 1986, FOI was originally organized to comment on the Inyo National Forest forest planning process. Since then, FOI has evolved into its current form working on a broad range of land and water protection issues that impact Inyo and Mono Counties.

Hathi Trust

HathiTrust.org offers public access to millions of titles from international academic and research institutions. Most articles archived by the Hathi Trust and their partners can be read online.
