Boards, Commissions, Vacancies
The Board of Supervisors has appointing authority over dozens of local committees, commissions, and governing boards, including those established to serve in an advisory capacity to the Supervisors, those responsible for carrying out Board-established policy, and those that serve local fire and cemetery districts.
In approving appointments to these committees, the Board follows a specific policy, based on State law, that ensures the utmost fairness and transparency throughout the process.
All vacancies are filled by a vote of the Board of Supervisors, only after the vacancies have been advertised in the newspaper of record and posted at County library branches. Letters of interest are collected by the Clerk of the Board. Once the application period closes, the Clerk of the Board forwards all letters of interest received during that time to the department charged with oversight of the committee or commission in question. That department then schedules an agenda item at the next available public meeting for the Board to consider the letter(s) received and make the necessary appointment(s).
For more information on the County's appointment process, contact the Assistant Clerk of the Board at 760.878.0373 or dellis@inyocounty.us.
