Tobacco Education Program
updated: 8/20/2025
The Inyo County Tobacco Education Program, funded by the California Tobacco Control Program, works to reduce the harms of commercial tobacco use in our community. We focus on education, prevention, and advocacy—empowering youth, supporting adults, and building healthier environments across the Eastern Sierra.
Our Goals and Strategies:
- Youth Leadership: Engage young people in coalition meetings and activities, helping them develop leadership skills and become advocates for tobacco-free living.
- Community Engagement: Involve the entire community—youth, adults, families, and organizations—in tobacco control activities and coalition work across Inyo County.
- Local Partnerships: Collaborate with businesses, schools, health organizations, and community groups to serve as stakeholders and advocates for a healthier, smoke-free Eastern Sierra.
- Cross-Program Collaboration: Partner with alcohol prevention and nutrition education programs to encourage health-promoting practices in local stores.
- Cessation Support: Promote evidence-based tobacco cessation classes and connect community members to services through Kick It California.
- Public Awareness: Educate the public about the dangers and low cost of flavored tobacco products that target and attract youth.
Note: “Tobacco” refers to commercial tobacco products, not the traditional, sacred use of tobacco by Indigenous peoples.
