2022 Summer Reading

Read beyond the beaten path

Join us for the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge
at the Inyo County Free Library!

June 15, 2022 to August 3, 2022

Beanstack

We are continuing a pilot project for our reading program using an online service called Beanstack, which we hope you will enjoy using.  Beanstack will have the usual book and reading logging that we’ve done with our summer reading programs in the past, but will do this online through a browser or with mobile apps (available from Google Play or the Apple App Store).

Assistance with using Beanstack will be available from the staff at the Inyo County Library Branches.  Please come to your local Inyo County Library Branch to get started.

Self-registration is available with the mobile app (search at “Find a site” for “Inyo County”) or at this address: https://inyocounty.beanstack.org.  Each reader in a family can be registered under one account.

Reading log, activities, and drawings

Activities for kids of all ages on science, nature, and art are included along with the reading log.  For the activities there are some prizes available after completion.

At the end of the program there will be drawings for prizes for readers at each branch and age group.  All participants are entered in the drawings but the chances of winning are increased by the amount of book and reading logging done.

In addition to reading logging and activities readers can also post reviews of the books they have read, which can be library books, personal books, ebooks or audiobooks.

Two age groups

There are 2 reading challenges available that are divided by age, one for 6 years old and younger (parent lead readers), and one for 6 years and older (independent readers).   The younger group will be tracking reading by counting books, and the older group will be tracking reading by counting minutes of reading.

First Partner's Summer Book Club

First Partner's Summer Book Club

The State Library is working with First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom on the First Partner's Summer Book Club for kids ages 3-12.

Each week, from June 7 through August 2, the First Partner or a special guest will read a story, hosted on the Governor's YouTube page (links below). The first reading, Grandad's Camper, will go live at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 7. Storytimes are fun, family activities for preschoolers (ages 3-5), but all are welcome to join.

The First Partner’s Summer Book Club is a 10-week initiative to promote children’s literacy and participation in summer reading programs hosted by local libraries throughout the state. Launched in partnership with the California State Library, First 5 Association of California, and First 5 California, the First Partner’s Summer Book Club offers California families opportunities to keep children engaged all summer long.
